M1872 & M1873 Enlisted Foot Dress Frockcoat

   The M1872 Enlisted Dismounted/Foot Dress Coat for Infantry, Heavy Artillery, Ordnance, Engineers and Hospital Stewards, is a Frock Coat. It is made using our quality 19 oz dark blue field service wool with a natural corset jean full body lining. Longer skirt and different back trim style than the Mounted services dress coat. This coat has belt loops in the back. The skirt is raw as per originals. It comes with Branch of Service color trim. The Branch of Service trim is on the Collar, Cuffs, Back Flaps, Epaulets and the piping on the edges.

   Heavy Artillery - Red Trim.
   Hospital Steward - Emerald Green Trim.
   Engineers - .
   Infantry - Sky Blue Trim.
   Ordnance - Crimson (Dark Wine) Trim.

   The 1872 Ordnance Dept Dress Coat (shown with optional chevrons) has Crimson trim color. The 1872 Hospital Steward Dress Coat would have Emerald Green trim color and the Hospital Steward half chevrons.

    The M1873 Enlisted Dismounted/Foot Dress Coat for Hospital Stewards, Ordnance and Engineers. In 1873, the US Army Uniform Board improved the look of the Dress coat for these three branches by changing the piping to white from the branch of service color piping used in 1872 and adding it to other areas of the coat. This greatly enhanced the look of these coats. Other than that the M1873 is the same basic design as the 1872 Foot style Dress coat.

     Ordnance Sergeant would have crimson trim replacing the Emerald Green and the Ordnance Sergeant's chevrons in place of the Hospital Steward half chevron.

    Engineers would have Scarlet (red) trim color with the white piping.

    Chevrons are not included on the M1872 coats, but are available for an additional charge. They are included on the M1873 Hospital Steward and Ordnance Sergeant coats, BUT NOT on the M1873 Engineer coat.

   The M1884 Gold Bouillon dress coat chevrons are the same pattern as the M1872 chevrons, except they are made with Gold Bouillon.

    In 1898 the Army authorized cotton chevrons to be used on the khaki uniform. This was so that the coat and chevrons would shrink at the same rate. These cotton chevrons are ONLY for use on the khaki coats.
